Property Documents are those papers such as title deeds, partition deed etc are the evident proof for claiming the ownership of any property. Property documents are very sensitive in nature and any damage or partial damage to those documents will raise a question of authenticity of the property document and subsequently the ownership of the property. File a police complaint immediately

When you realize that your property document is lost, file a police complaint immediately. First information report (FIR) should be made mentioning the complete details of the papers or property document which is lost. Get a copy of the FIR for future reference.

Publish an advertisement

Publish an advertisement mentioning the details of the lost property documents. Advertisement should be made in two daily newspapers, one in English newspaper and the other in any local newspaper published in regional language. From the date of advertisement wait for at least fifteen days to get any response before you proceed to the next step.

Notary Registration

After completion of the above steps one should then prepare for an undertaking with the notary about the lost of property papers. Notary registration should be drafted on a stamp paper mentioning the details of the property documents, along with the copy of the first information report (FIR) and with the copy of the newspaper advertisement. Then the stamp paper should be duly signed by the property owner and the same has to be attested and registered with a notary to make it legal.
