ABOUT DMK JAOLI BANK

• The co-operative movement was spread with great strength in Mumbai and Western part of the Maharashtra state in 1970's. The freedom fighter & important leader of Satara District DattatrayMaharajKalambe along with BhilareGuruji and various followers built unity with the co-operation of the working class people by ways of Bhajan and Kirtana. They collected Rs.1.25 lacs capital within a month from 1,000 ordinary working class people and established the "JAOLI SAHAKARI BANK" on 19 July 1973.


• Establishment of a co-operative bank by the working class people was a rare occurrence before the co-operative movement and banking sector. The bank started functioning by obtaining a licence from the Reserve Bank of India on 7 September 1973 from Masjid Bundar, Mumbai in the presence of the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra State Late VasantraoNaik.


• Eminent leaders VasantdadaPatil, NarendraTidke, W.C. Shreemal, managing director of MSC Bank were the chief guest of the inaugural function of the bank. Eminent leaders of Maharashtra state, YashwantraoChavan, AnnasahebPatil, SharadchandrajiPawar were the followers of DattatrayMaharajKalambe and well-wishers of the bank also attended the function.


• Until 1986, the bank was functioning with one branch. At the initial stage, the approach was to assist the financial needs of the deprived class of the society. The progress of the bank was steady but the performance was solid. DattatrayMaharajKalambe, spreading the thought instead of funding Rs. one lakh to an individual; 20 needy individuals be funded with rupees five thousand for their better living among his followers. The bank was continuously upgrading its quality of customer services and opened its second branch at Bhandup in sub-urban areas of Mumbai in April 1986.


• In 2000, the bank opened its 7 other branches at different destinations. Area of operation of the bank is Brihanmumbai, Thane, Satara, Pune &Raigad districts of Maharashtra state and functioning through the network of 10 branches in Mumbai, Thane &Satara districts. As on 31 March 2010, the bank is one of the renowned non-scheduled Co-operative Banks with a business mix of over Rs.425 crore.


• During the commencement of the bank, the members were only 1,000; now they have increased up to 38,000 members. The total number of employees working with the bank is 253. A small plant seeded in the year 1973 is now transmitted to a big tree. Bank has flown the life of many people during its history of 48 glorious years of banking.
