About ING Vysya Bank

  • ING Vysya Bank was a privately owned Indian Multinational Bank established in Bangalore, Karnataka by merging of Vysya Bank's with the Dutch ING Group in 2002 which was approved by Reserve Bank of India (RBI). After merging Indian Law allowed ING to increase its total equity holding in Vysya Bank from 20% to 44%. This merger marked the first amalgamation of an Indian bank and a foreign bank.

  • Vyaya Bank was formed and incorporated in 1930’s. This bank favors the Arcot Mudaliar community in the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka. During the British period, Karnataka was known as the cradle of Indian banking due to the region’s bygone banking relationship with several European East India Companies.

  • Between 1930 and 1950, Vysya Bank built its banking business in southern India. It mainly concentrated on serving the Vysya community, a merchant and trading community spread across the region of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In 1958, the RBI gave license to the Vysya bank to expand its banking operations nationwide. In 1972, the RBI upgraded Vysya Bank to a national ‘B’ class bank.

  • In 1987, Vysya Bank formed two subsidiaries namely Vysya Bank Leasing Limited and Vysya Bank Housing Finance Limited which will operate independently in providing equipment leasing and home mortgaging services respectively. In 1994, Vysya Bank introduced several financial products to Indian middle-class segments like Vysprime and Vysinvest for NRIs, Vysbuy for consumer financing, Vysmobile for auto loan financing and Vysequity for common equity financing.

  • In March 2013, ING Vysya became the seventh largest private bank in India with an assets of Rs.548.36 billion and operating a pan-India network of over 1,00 outlets including 527 branches serving two million customers.

  • On 20 November 2014, ING Vysya Bank decided to merge Kotak Mahindra Bank under an all-stock amalgamation, creating the fourth largest private sector bank in India. On 1 April 2015, the RBI approved the merger and the whole merger process was completed on 15 May 2016.

  • At present, ING Vysya Bank is operating with more than 547 branches and 10 counters, 28 satellite offices and 470 ATM's nationwide. It has rapidly expanded its distribution footprint and has created a national brand presence through several innovative marketing campaigns. Its retail operation offers cheque accounts, savings deposits/CD's, retail wealth management services, consumer loans, agricultural/rural banking and retail life insurance products.
