  • Pragathi Krishna Gramin Bank was established on 23 August 2013. It is a Regional Rural Bank sponsored by Canara Bank. It has its headquarters in Ballari, Karnataka and provides its customers with advanced banking services and financial products. The bank has a wide network of 649 branches and 11 regional offices, covering 11 eastern districts of Karnataka State.

  • Regional Rural banks (RRBs) in India were established by the Government of India, under provisions of RRBs Act 1976, enacted by the Indian Parliament. At present, RRBs have become an Integral part of the Indian banking System. Like other public sector Banks RRBs are established by Govt. of. India and are scheduled & notified by the Reserve Bank of India. RRBs are jointly owned by the Government of India(GOI), Sponsor Bank and the concerned State Government and share 50%, 35% & 15% respectively.

  • The bank was established with a view to develop the rural economy by catering the basic banking needs for the purpose of development of agriculture, trade, commerce, industry and other productive activities in the rural areas, credit and other facilities, particularly to the small and marginal farmers, agricultural laborers, artisans and small entrepreneurs and for matters connected therewith and individuals thereto.

  • The Government of India decided to merge a few banks with a view to improve the operational viability and efficiency of RRBs, and initiated the process of structural consolidation by amalgamating RRBS.
