About Prathama Gramin Bank

  • Prathama Gramin Bank was established on 2 October 1975. It was the first Regional Rural Bank of India, sponsored by Syndicate Bank and operated under Regional Rural Bank Act 1976. Its head office was located in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. It was a scheduled bank placed under the second schedule of the Reserve Bank of India. The ownership of the bank was vested with the Central Government which holds 50%, Syndicate Bank 35% and Uttar Pradesh Government 15% of shares.

  • This bank operated in four districts namely, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha and Sambhal with a network of 401 branches and 35 ATMs. The unique features of this bank, it has a strong financial base with reserves of 814 crore and net worth of 823 crore. As on 31 March 2015, this bank’s one branch has crossed Rs.650 core business, 10 branches have crossed Rs.100 crore business and 41 branches have crossed Rs.50 crore business. All branches work on CBS with the facility of RTGS/NEFT.

  • On 22 February 2019, the Government of India decided to merge the two regional rural banks namely Prathama Gramin Bank at Moradabad and Sarva UP Gramin Bank at Meerut. After amalgamation of these two banks, it emerged as Prathama U.P Gramin Bank (PUPGB), a Government of India Undertaking, functions under the Finance Ministry and sponsored by Punjab national Bank, a leading commercial bank in India.

  • The Bank has its Head Office in Moradabad. The Bank’s operational area spreads in 20 Districts viz.Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Gautam Budh Nagar, Hapur, Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur, Muzaffaranagar, Bijnor, Haridwar, Gonda, Balrampur, Sambhal, Budaun , Jhansi, Lalitpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha.

  • Its parent organization is Government of India, Finance Ministry. The ownership of the bank was vested with the Central Government which holds 50%, Punjab National Bank 35% and Uttar Pradesh Government 15% of shares.

  • At present, this bank has 946 branches and operates as Regional Rural Bank in 20 districts. As of 2020, there were 3840 employees working in this bank.
