Documents you Need to Apply for New PAN Card

There are different documents that you need to submit when you are applying for a PAN card for the very first time. These documents are for

1. Proof of Address
2. Proof of Identity
3. Proof of Date of Birth

There are two kinds of online application forms - Form 49A is for Indian citizens and Form 49AA is for foreign citizens who are paying tax in India. And then again, the documents are different if you are applying for a PAN for your company or firm registered in India. So here is a list of documents for different types of PAN as updated in 2018.

If you are applying for a PAN for a minor, then the certificates of any one parent can be submitted along with the minor’s proof of birth.

Documents Required For New PAN By An Indian Citizen

You need to provide a copy of 3 documents that are recognized by the Indian government as proof of Identity, proof of address and proof of birth. And these documents could be any one of these.

1. Proof of Identity as an Indian Citizen

1. Voters Card
2. Passport
3. Driving License
4. Ration Card with applicants photo
5. Aadhaar Card
6. Any Photo ID card issued by Government of India like Post Office ID

If you don’t have any of the above then you can get attested original document of

1. Attested Bank certificate with photo of applicant and bank account number
2. Certificate of identity with photo signed Member of Parliament or legislative assembly or municipal councilor

2. Address Proof for PAN

Copies of any of one of these documents. If it is a bill statement then it should not be older than 3 months.

1. Passport
2. Passport of spouse (supported by marriage certificate preferably)
3. Electricity bills (if in your name)
4. Latest landline phone bill (BSNL)
5. Bank account statements
6. Credit card statement
7. Post office passbook featuring address of the applicant
8. Voter identity card with photograph
9. Driving license
10. Domicile certificate issued by government
11. Aadhaar Card

3. Proof of Date of Birth

1. Passport
2. Drivers license
3. Birth certificate issued by Municipal Office
4. School Board Exam Mark Sheet
5. Affidavit Signed before Magistrate

4. Documents for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) Pan Application

This is relevant for small family owned businesses and there is a joint income being earned, In such a case a single PAN is provided. For all official formalities of the HUF a Karta has to be nominated who is authorized to carry out all official requirements. The documents for PAN are

1. A signed declaration by the Karta of the name, Father’s name and address of each member of the HUF
2. The proof documents of identity. address and date of birth for each individual as stated in the HUF

5. PAN Card Application by a Company

The documents required for a company Pan (Registered in India) are quite simple and is just the copy of registration Certificate that is issued by the Registrar of Companies.

If the Company is registered outside India then

1. Copy of certificate issued by Registrar of firms or the copy of the deed of partnership
2. The copy of approval granted to set up the company in India by Indian authorities

6. PAN Application by an Individual Foreigner

To apply for a PAN the passport is all you need to apply for a PAN as it is a proof of identity as well as of birth. The other certificates that can be used for proof of address are copies of any of the following

1. Bank account statements in the country of residence
2. The registration certificate issued by Foreigners Registration Office and shows Indian address
3. Non-resident external bank account statements in India
4. Visa granted by the foreign country and/or copy of appointment letter issued by an Indian company and original certificate of Indian Address issued by employer
