PAN Card application

A PAN card is an important document for any Indian Citizen be it showing it as proof of identity or required at the time of filing an income tax return. The Income Tax Department of India has made filing PAN card applications easier by making it an online option available. All is required that visit the NSDL website and click on the option ‘ Apply for PAN Card online. Apart from that, you can also apply to visit the UTIITSL website to apply for a PAN Card.

Steps to apply for PAN Card online

  • Click on the option’ Apply for PAN Card online’
  • Choose your category like whether you are Indian or Foreign Citizen
  • At the time of filing a PAN Card application, you need to also clarify whether want to apply for a new PAN card or Re-print a PAN Card.
  • After selecting the category, you are also required to choose the option like company, individual, an associate of individuals, HUF, limited liability partnership, or local authority, etc.
  • After this, fill in the required details on the form along with the attachment of scanned documents.

The information must be provided for these sections

  • Title
  • Last name
  • First name
  • Middle name
  • Date of Birth
  • Email ID
  • Phone number

After providing the required information, you will have to enter the re-type captcha code and then click on 'Submit'.

After submitting, the website provides you with a 15-digit acknowledgment number and the page must be printed.

Ways of filing offline PAN Card application

If you are not internet savvy, you can also file the PAN Card application offline. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Visit the website either NSDL or UTIITSL
  • Download Form 49A in case you are an Indian citizen and Form 49AA in case you are NRI.
  • Fill in the form with all the section in the 8 pages
  • Once the application is filled, attached along with a demand draft of Rs 107 in case the applicant sent it within India. In case the application is to be sent outside India, a demand draft of Rs 887 is required.
  • The form must be sent along with a copy of your ID proof and address proof to - INCOME TAX PAN SERVICES UNIT (Managed by NSDL e-Governance, Infrastructure Limited), 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune - 411 016.

Fee and charges of PAN Card application

The fees and charges applied varies on the type of application which is filed with the Income Tax Department of India. The application of a new PAN card, Rs.107 via demand draft.

Depending on your type of application for the card, if you are an Indian or a foreign citizen or if you have applied for changes to be made, the fees charged varies. A postal fee is also charged if you choose the option of card delivery to your address.

Dos and Don’ts of PAN Card application

  • Make sure that the information mentioned in the PAN Card application is accurate with respect to address and identity proof.
  • Make sure that the thumb impression is duly attested having the sign of Magistrate/ Notary before making submission.
  • If you are making an offline credit card application in capital letters and don’t make corrects or overwriting in the form.
  • Both Online and offline PAN Card application avoid using initials in the first and last name columns.
  • Do not apply for a new PAN card, if your old PAN card is lost or defaced.
