Form 49 A

Form 49 A is the application form to be filled by the citizens of India at the time of applying for a PAN Card. One can either download the form from NSDL or UTIITSL website or apply online directly. Once the form is filled in with accurate details, an applicant is required to make an online payment and submit the form with the required photographs and documents.

How the Form 49 A looks like?

Form 49A is structured to make it easier for customers to fill the form. There are designated spaces available in the form to affix the photographs on the top corners of the form. The form in total consists of 16 components, each component has a subsection that needs to be filled out.

Assessing officer code- The applicant has to give the Area code, range code, account office number, and type.

Full name: It is a part of the form where the individual has to provide the details like the last name, surname, first name, etc.

Name abbreviations- The applicant has to abbreviate their name as they want to make it appear on the PAN form.

Another name: In this section, the applicant has to mention their old name if they have changed any name. Details of an old name like first name, last name, or surname.

Gender: Required to provide their orientation status.

Date of birth: Under this section, an applicant has to mention the date of birth, in case the form is filled by the company, the date of partnership/incorporation/Agreement, or the Trust deed.

Father’s name- The applicant has to mention the first name, last name, and surname of their father in this part of the form. This applies only to individual applicants including married women.

Address: The applicant needs to mention the details of their residence and office address in this part of the form.

Address of communication- The applicant has to choose the address of communication between office or residence.

Telephone number and email id- The applicant has to mention their State code, country code, and telephone/mobile number.

Status of applicant: In here, the applicant has to mention if they are an individual, a HUF member, a Company, a Partnership firm, etc.

Registration number: The registration number means the registration number for the company, firms, LLPs, etc.

Aadhaar number- The Aadhaar number should be mentioned if the individual owns an Aadhaar card.

Source of income- The applicant should mention from where they draw their income.

Representative Assessee: The applicant needs to provide the name and address of the representative assessee.

Documents submitted: In this part of the form, the applicant is required to give details of all the documents they have submitted with the form.

Step by Step guide to fill Form 49A

Offline Procedure

Given below are steps to follow while filing PAN Card application

Language: The only option in language to fill Form 49A is English. You cannot fill the form in any other language. Fill the form only in Block letters format and preferable with black ink pen only. Each box of the form is required to be filled only a single character. After that an empty box after each character.

Photographs- The applicant is required to attach two recent color photographs in the space provided on the top corners of the form. Do not staple the photograph or clip to the form. Make sure the photograph attached in the PAN form is of good quality.

Signature on the photograph- Either give a left-hand thumb impression or signature on your PAN form

A signature or a left-hand thumb impression should be provided across the photo that is affixed to the left top corner of the form. The applicant should ensure that the signature or the thumbprint is both on the photograph and form as well. For the photograph on the right top corner of the form, the signature or thumb impression should be contained inside the box provided and not on the photograph as the photograph on the right top corner of the form will be the one displayed on the PAN card.

Correct details- Filling the form with incorrect details might results in complications during the processing of the form and might even lead to rejection of the application.

Overwriting- Overwriting should be avoided when filing the form.

Contact details- While mentioning the address, it is important to provide complete details including details of the town, city, and Pin code is mandatory. It is also important to mention the STD code for the phone number provided.

Online Procedure

  • To apply for PAN Card online, Log on to the website of NSDL
  • Click on the "Apply Now" Tab for filling the application form for New PAN card.
  • Fill in your PAN application form online and click on Submit Button.
  • Verify of details and click on 'Proceed to Payment Button'.
  • Make a payment.
  • After the completion of the payment process, download and print your pre-filled application form
  • Paste photo, sign, attach documents and post to our address (You will get the postal address on the instruction sheet)
