Form 49AA

All the NRIs who are willing to apply for a PAN Card are required to fill Form 49AA. The Government of India has designed Form 49AA as per Rule 114 of the Income Tax Act 1962. The KYC details of NRIs are shared through a Foreign institutional investor or a qualified foreign investor as per the guidelines given by the Securities Exchange Board of India.

All the foreigners who are planning to invest in India for business purpose or is earning from India are eligible to hold PAN Card. Be it a foreigner who is applying for a new PAN card or wants to make changes in the existing PAN card has to fill Form 49AA.

The documents required to apply for PAN Form 49 AA

Identity Proof:

  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Person of India Origin
  • Overseas Citizen of India
  • Proof of Tax identification number duly attested by the embassy of India or Apostille

Proof of address

  • Passport
  • Bank account statement
  • Non-resident external bank account statement in India
  • Proof of certificate of residence in India
  • proof of residential issued by state police authorities
  • Proof of registration certificate granted by the Foreigner's registration office along with the mention of Indian address
  • Visa copy
  • Contract Agreement of Indian company
Online and offline procedure to fill Form 49AA

The offline process to fill Form 49AA

  • The form 49AA is available both at the website of NSDL and UTIITSL
  • Download Form 49AA from NSDL or UTIITSL portal and fill in the obligatory and personal details.
  • With all the details, need to attach the relevant documents.
  • After that sign, the declaration stating that all the details written in the form are correct and accurate.
  • Mention the place and date along with the signature or left thumb impression.Attachment of recent size passport photograph
  • After reviewing all the details mentioned in the PAN form, send it to the nearest NSDL or UTIITSL office.
  • Give the applicable charges at the time of form submission through DD, cash, or e-payment. After the successful submission
  • Your PAN Card will be delivered to your doorstep within 15 working days.

Online procedure to fill Form 49 AA

  • Log on to the website of UTIITSL or NSDL
  • Click on the option’ Apply for PAN Card.
  • Click on ‘ PAN Card for foreign citizens.
  • After that, an applicant is redirected to the PAN application form.
  • Choose the status as per your category
  • Choose the option E-PAN or Physical PAN
  • Put the AO number, Area Code, AO Type that can be easily accessible at the nearest Income Tax Office.
  • Fill in the personal details like residential address, office address, and communication address.
  • Choose the citizen type and ISO code.
  • Mention the income source and after that submission of essential documents for completing the KYC procedure.
  • On completing KYC, fill in the declaration box, enter the Captcha code and click on submit.
  • You will get an acknowledgment number after form submission.
  • Download the acknowledgment number and take the print-out of the same.
  • Now upload your scanned documents and make the payment.
  • Payment can be done by the way of Cheque or DD or you can also pay the amount through credit card, debit card or net banking.
  • You can easily track the PAN application through your Application Number. A physical PAN card will be sent to your given address within 15 working days.
