Why a minor felt in need of a PAN Card?

If you want to keep a minor child a nominee in any of the investments like shares, property, fixed deposits, or any mutual funds. It is a must to submit the PAN Card of a minor.
- Any investment made in the name of a minor; PAN card is required.
Important facts to remember about PAN Card for the minor
While a PAN card is to keep a record of all tax-related information on the holder. The income earned by minor from any income or investments they hold will not be taxable, except under certain conditions mentioned below
- If the minor is earning income for herself or himself.
- If the income/investment earned by a minor is a result of the child’s application of his/her skills and talent.
- If the minor has a physical disability, suffers from total blindness, etc.
The online procedure to apply for a PAN Card for the minor
- Log on to the website of NSDL

Choose to fill Form 49A
- Start fill in the application form by choosing the appropriate category i.e., Minors
- After that fill in all the details like name, address, date of birth, email address, etc.

Upload the latest photograph of a good quality
- After that uploading of scanned documents like address proof, identity proof, age proof of the minor and parents, guardians, or representative assessee.

The signature of the guardian or parents will be uploaded.
- Post filling all the details, it will redirect to you a page of payment. The fee applicable to applying for a PAN Card is Rs. 107 (Rs. 989 for non-resident Indians) via credit card, debit card, net banking, or demand draft.

After filling the form, click the ‘Submit button. You will be provided with an acknowledgment number that can be used to track the status of the application.
- If you have not uploaded online documents, you can also enclose the documents along with the demand draft (if chosen as a mode of payment).
- Make an envelope and title the with “APPLICATION FOR PAN” and the “Acknowledgement Number” at the following address

- Once the Income Tax Department receives your PAN Application, you will receive a notification on your provided email address.
- The PAN card will be sent to mentioned address within 10-15 working days after successful verification.
Offline procedure to apply PAN Card for minors
- Log on to the website of NSDL
- Download Form 49A
- Fill in the application with necessary details like name, address, date of birth, email address, etc.
- Fill in the details carefully and attach a copy of relevant documents.
- Attach two photographs of the child; however, it will not appear on the PAN card.
- Submit the form along with the documents to the nearest NSDL office along with the fees.
- After the successful verification will take place, the PAN card will be sent to the mentioned address.
